Book review of Beautiful Bastard (Beautiful Bastard #1) byChristina Lauren

16102004

An ambitious intern. A perfectionist executive. And a whole lot of name calling.

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He's exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family's massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who'd been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he's never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe's so tempting he's willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they're willing to lose in order to win each other.

Originally only available online as The Office by tby789—and garnering over 2 million reads on fanfiction sites—Beautiful Bastard has been extensively updated for re-release.

Why have I waited so long to read this!? I totally remember reading this when it was The Office and thinking it was so very sexy. I loved it then, and I love it now.

So, we have Chloe- the smart and dedicated assistant who has some mega lady balls on her. And then we have her boss, Bennett Ryan, who is the jerks of all jerks. Sexy jerk of all jerks. On a scale from one to ten on the jerk scale, he'd be at 100 (at least). Ok, but seriously. He is just that: a Beautiful Bastard. There were quite a few times I wanted to kill him. But then he would say or do something incredibly sexy and I'd just:

I really enjoyed that the story was told in dual POV. It was great because we got to read from both sides. The banter between Chloe and Bennett was laugh out loud funny. I mean, just:

“I'm two seconds away from castrating you with my heel.” -Chloe

“Caught you looking.” -Bennett

 And that foreplay tho.

This is a fun, quick and sexy read. What kept me from giving it 5 stars was that I felt the ending was a little rushed. I didn't need a whole extra 100 pages but I think maybe 10-20 pages more would've rounded it off a little better. Either way, I'm glad I finally got around to reading this and I cannot wait to read the rest in the series!

  1. Good review! This is one of those books that I would LOVE to read but haven't picked it up yet, for whatever reason.
