Book review of Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles #1) byKresley Cole

She could save the world—or destroy it.

Sixteen-year-old Evangeline "Evie" Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they're still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can't do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can't totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it's not always clear who is on which side.

With The Arcana Chronicles, Cole delivers a YA series with some TEETH!

Her debut book Poison Princess, follows our young heroine, Evie Green as she navigates cheerleading, dating the quarterback, trading steamy glances with the resident bad boy, and contemplating her possible insanity evidenced mostly by her hallucinations of a post-apocalyptic world.  #nbd
Well, turns out she was RIGHT...

The fun begins reading about her interactions with the obligatory school “bad boy” Jack Deveaux (yes that name means he has a sexy Creole accent!) This is possibly the hottest YA dystopian series out there.  Seriously, just look at the illustration:

We all know that the build up to the kiss is what makes it sooooo steamy and this builddddssss honneyyyyy.  These two definitely have chemistry!

The fun CONTINUES following their journey for survival and answers, navigating through this new and perilous reality. If you aren’t already restless dreaming of Jack Deveux, Cole gives you plenty of plot to keep you up at night. She also provides a colorful cast of characters and (without giving too much away) a unique and intriguing theme (read: why didn’t I think of that??)
As you know, by now, I am a huge Kresley fan, and this series does NOT disappoint....even though I may have been thrown a bit of shade when I heard she was venturing into YA land.

Then Cole was like "How do those words taste???"

Poison Princess gives us a whole new world to explore which, while vastly different from her adult series, is still just as stimulating.

Soon they discover that Evie is not the only one with strange and fascinating powers. A group of 22 teens, all with unique and connected abilities are acting out an ancient prophecy! Can you think of what has 22 characters of power???? You don’t have to- Just go read it.  You’re Welcome.
