Book review of Dark Skye (Immortals After Dark #14) by Kresley Cole

In this highly anticipated fifteenth novel in the Immortals After Dark series, #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole spins a sultry tale of a mighty warrior scarred inside and out and the beguiling sorceress with the power to heal him—or vanquish him forever.

Eternal Obsession

As a boy, Thronos, prince of Skye Hall, loved Lanthe, a mischievous Sorceri girl who made him question everything about his Vrekener clan. But when the two got caught in the middle of their families’ war, tragedy struck, leaving Thronos and Lanthe bitter enemies. Though centuries have passed, nothing can cool his seething need for the beautiful enchantress who scarred his body—and left an even deeper impression on his soul.

Endless Yearning

Lanthe, a once-formidable sorceress struggling to reclaim her gifts, searches for love and acceptance with all the wrong immortal suitors. But she’s never forgotten Thronos, the magnificent silver-eyed boy who protected her until she was ripped from the shelter of his arms. One harrowing night changed everything between them. Now he’s a notorious warlord with a blood vendetta against Lanthe, hunting her relentlessly.

Can the heat of desire burn brighter than vengeance?

With their families locked in conflict and battles raging all around them, will Thronos and Lanthe succumb to the brutal chaos that threatens everything they cherish? Or will the fragile bond they formed so long ago spark a passion strong enough to withstand even the darkest doubts?

So, this book was NOT a letdown.  As the 14th installment in Kresley Cole’s IAD (Immortals After Dark) series, you are once again fully immersed in The Lore (Don’t know what it is?  Go read the books)

Except, just when you think the world that Kres ('cause we’re that close) has created is comfortably mapped into your mind, all figured out and pleasantly intriguing on its own, she TOTALLY paints NEW worlds inside, outside, above, below WHATEVER - our imaginations are fed a whole new feast of colorful and deadly and creative wonderlands in which to bookcrastinate (too obvious?)

We pick up with one of Cole’s intriguing storylines, which has been peppered throughout a few of her previous books in the series.  This has guaranteed loyal followers’ to be fangirling so hard, because she has literally been teasing us with this coupling for years.

SPEAKING of loyal IAD fans, Kres really opens up some plot lines in this book!  Nix shows up sporting her plucky t-shirts (never have read one I didn’t want to wear) and drops some boss plot bombs.  A number of plot teasers are resolved in this book while setting up some real progression to be made in future books…I literally gasped at a couple of reveals.  Totally dug it.

The only reason I didn’t read it in one sitting is because I was on vacation in San Francisco, and forced into fun activities, like touring Alcatraz,  the Muir Woods Redwood forest, etc….
And even then girl you know I have that Nook app for a reason!  If you don’t think I was sneaking chapters every chance I got, you. just. don’t. know. It was actually comical how lost I got on my little iPhone screen, publicly broadcasting my reactions!  HA! I’m sure I sensed the heat of concerned looks when I would suddenly *Gasp*, chuckle, or some other choice expletive.
I also missed plenty of eye rolls from my sister who just. Doesn’t. Get it.

So, not to give too much away, but I will tell you that Kresley has once again provided some top notch pearl clutching action ;)  BUT the delightful twist is that this time she really drawwwwws out the tension. Girl makes holding hands more heated then at that 8th grade dance.

Our Leading man (I will not divulge species information) is struggling with a delicious inner battle between moral upstandingness in a life of neutrals, and the basal animal needs and color that is Lanthe just tearing at those personal walls (from the inside).

Another juicy variation in this IAD book, is that these two have one serious history.  He is like that guy that was your first love, and then shit got REAL complicated, and you aren’t sure maybe he is your true love? But sometimes you want to eat his face?  Just me?  I relate.

Anyhow, well built back story, fantastic sexual tension, witty banter, laughs, tears, great fights, better make ups, sexy hard bodied hero, hot sex, true love…
The story itself takes us on a treasure hunt with dragons, Gold, mazes, demons, cryptic signs, Valkyries, Vrekners, and vivisections …what more do you want?
Except now I have to wait a year for the next one.

Just go read it.  You’re Welcome.

P.S. Kres- Call me!
