Book Review of Deceive (Estilorian #7) by Raine Thomas

When the elders imprisoned Metis, they took every precaution to protect the Estilorian plane against her evil.

It wasn’t enough.

Now she’s escaped, and no one is safe. Fueled by hatred, she wastes no time imposing vengeance on those who captured her. She knows the surest way to destroy their lives is by taking what they love most, and she begins with a child named Eden.

Years later, Eden remembers none of her former life. She serves her “Master,” unaware of the family still searching for her. But as her eighteenth birthday approaches, memories begin to surface, and she questions her circumstances for the first time.

Eden’s confusion mounts when she’s joined by Connor, a handsome Elphresti male who reveals things that shatter her reality. They’ll end up on the run, knowing they can trust only each other. After all, Metis will stop at nothing to get them back, and she thrives on her ability to deceive.

I love Raine Thomas' Estilorian series.

Four years ago I was in a reading funk, nothing was catching my attention and everything I would start reading just felt so dull. You guys know what I'm talking about!

I was searching through my twitter feed when an account popped up. The tiny avi looked cool so I opened it and saw a stunning book cover! Raine had just published the Daughters of Saraqael trilogy and the cover of BECOMING took my breath away. I decided it was my birthday weekend and I wanted to treat myself, so I went ahead and bought BECOMING. I've been a super fan of Raine's ever since. I ended up reading BECOMING in one sitting and purchasing CENTRAL and FORETOLD the next day.

Which brings me to four years later (today). DECEIVE tossed me right back into the fantasy world I've been missing! The way Raine describes everything so vividly but yet allows me to sprinkle my own touches of imagination is unmatched. I love that I get to revisit my favorite characters and get glimpses of their happily ever after. Or in this case, we get a bittersweet view of their happily ever after. Everything is going well in their lives except for the gaping hole in their hearts that was created when Eden was kidnapped.

DECEIVE follows Eden's story. She has no real memories of her parents or of her previous life and has grown up with constant brain washing and torture at the hands of Metis. Her parents story was my favorite Estilorian story so I'm sure I have a special attachment to this story.

We experience the results of Eden's kidnapping through the eyes of herself and her family. I wasn't expecting the level of emotions I experienced reading this book. Raine really outdid herself on this one, I literally shed a tear at the end of the book and I NEVER cry while reading! I don't want to spoil anything so I will just say that this book moves fast and kept me flipping pages and avoiding my daily tasks. I highly recommend it! This book can be read as a stand alone but I personally enjoy being invested in the world and characters!
